Suspected bandits on Tuesday night attacked the National Park Service (NPS) office in Oloka, Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The assault reportedly occurred at about 9 p.m., sending shockwaves through the local community. While details of the incident are still emerging, initial reports indicate that about five personnel of the National Park Service may have been killed during the attack.
The Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed that the incident took place but said the police were yet to officially verify the number of casualties involved.
In response to the attack, the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, CP Femi Haruna, has ordered the immediate deployment of tactical teams to the area. The reinforcement includes officers of the Mobile Police Force (MPF), the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit to restore calm and prevent any further breakdown of law and order.
Security operatives have since taken control of the area, while investigations are ongoing to ascertain the full circumstances surrounding the attack and to track down the perpetrators.
Residents have been urged to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies as efforts continue to ensure safety and bring those responsible to justice.
