Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has secured a resounding victory in the Anambra State governorship election, reaffirming his dominance in the state’s political landscape and extending APGA’s two-decade rule.
According to official figures released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Soludo polled 422,664 votes out of a total of 584,054 valid votes, defeating his closest rival, Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who garnered 99,445 votes.
Other contenders trailed far behind, with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) polling 8,208 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) managed 1,401 votes.
The former Central Bank of Nigeria Governor swept all 21 local government areas of the state, cementing his place as the third governor in Anambra’s history, after Peter Obi and Willie Obiano, to win a second term.
The election results reflected Soludo’s overwhelming popularity across the state. He recorded double-digit leads over his rivals in virtually all LGAs, including Aguata (35,559 votes), Orumba North (24,664), Onitsha North (24,225), Idemili North (25,498), and Anambra West (71,365), his largest single-area haul.
Analysts had earlier described the poll as a litmus test for APGA’s political structure and grassroots strength in the South-East. Saturday’s results, however, left no doubt about the party’s enduring appeal.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in a statement released on Sunday, October 9, 2025, congratulated Soludo on what he described as “a landslide and well-deserved re-election,” calling the outcome “an affirmation of visionary and result-driven leadership.”
He commended the people of Anambra, security agencies, and INEC for what he called a peaceful, credible, and transparent electoral process, and urged Soludo to be “magnanimous in victory.”
“Professor Soludo’s re-election is a testament to his visionary leadership and the significant progress the state has made under his guidance.
He has demonstrated that knowledge, discipline, and prudence can transform governance,” Tinubu said.
The President also praised INEC Chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan and his team for conducting what observers have hailed as a free and fair election.
“The victory of the opposition APGA shows the vibrancy of Nigeria’s democracy and reaffirms that every hard-working leader can triumph under a credible process,” Tinubu added.
Tinubu recalled his visit to Anambra earlier in the year to inaugurate some of Soludo’s landmark projects, describing the experience as “remarkable and unforgettable.”
He commended the governor for “bringing grace, brilliance, and a fresh perspective to governance,” noting that “under him, Anambra is truly living up to its motto as the Light of the Nation.”
Assuring the APGA governor of continued partnership, the President pledged the Federal Government’s readiness to collaborate with the Anambra State Government in driving development initiatives.
“I look forward to deeper cooperation between Anambra and the Federal Government. Governor Soludo can count on my support as he continues to deliver good governance to the people,” Tinubu stated.
Soludo’s triumph not only consolidates his personal mandate but also extends APGA’s political dynasty in Anambra, an unbroken streak that began with Peter Obi’s victory in 2006.
With Saturday’s outcome, the party reaffirmed its dominance in the only South-East state under its control.
Observers say Soludo’s emphatic win will embolden his administration to pursue ongoing infrastructure, education, and digital innovation reforms, as he continues his “Solution Agenda” for the state.
