A Nollywood actor, Dele Odule, has stirred debate with a bold assertion that sex in Nigeria’s movie industry is entirely consensual, countering long-standing claims of sexual exploitation and coercion of actresses.
Odule Stated this in a recent interview, dismissed allegations that actresses are being pushed out of the industry for refusing sexual advances from influential figures or forced into sextual relationship to get roles.
He said, It is a lie that ladies are are being sexually exploited in the movie industry. There is no way somebody who do not like something will do it. If actresses do not consent to a sexual relationship, no one can force her into it. There are many reasons why anybody can be denied a role. I am a man and for two years, they did not invite me to participate in acting. It was during that time that I went to university. As you are seeing me, I have a degree in Mass Communication.”
Meanwhile, in a related cultural commentary, the actor also offered a brief insight into Yoruba traditional leadership.
He described the Awujale as the head of the traditional ruler in Ijebu land.
While emphasising that the Ooni of Ife is the overall leader of the Yoruba people, he called him “Oba Orirun Gbogbo Ile Yoruba” (the king of the origin of all Yoruba lands).
To him, Alaafin is only the paramount ruler within Oyo.
