Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Somtochukwu Maduagwu, a young journalist with Arise News, describing her demise as a painful and tragic loss to the media profession.
In a condolence message on Tuesday, Mrs. Tinubu said she woke up to the “sad news of the unfortunate and untimely death” of Maduagwu, whom she described as one of the nation’s “young and brilliant minds in the journalism profession.”
“She has been cut down in her prime. Her death is painful and quite unfortunate,” the First Lady stated.
Mrs. Tinubu extended her condolences to the Chairman of Arise News Media, Chief Nduka Obaigbena, as well as to Maduagwu’s family, friends, colleagues, and loved ones.
“It is my hope and prayer that the perpetrators will be apprehended as soon as possible and brought to book,” she added.
While praying for the repose of the journalist’s soul, Mrs. Tinubu also asked God to grant her family and all those affected by her passing the strength to bear the “irreplaceable loss.”
Maduagwu’s death has sparked widespread outrage in media and human rights circles, with calls for justice and improved safety for journalists in the country.
