The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has temporarily suspended the enforcement of the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act, 1991, following a high-level meeting with the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.
The NBA delegation, led by its President, Afam Josiah Osigwe (SAN), met with the IGP to discuss legal and public concerns surrounding the implementation of the policy.
According to a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the suspension was made out of consideration for public interest and respect for the NBA, despite the absence of a clear court order halting enforcement.

The Force noted that the temporary suspension would remain in effect pending the outcome of a motion before the Federal High Court, Warri, scheduled for hearing on October 16, 2025.
To foster better cooperation, a joint Police-NBA committee has been inaugurated to strengthen collaboration and uphold the rule of law.
The Police urged motorists to use the suspension period to update their vehicle documentation and comply with existing traffic regulations.
IGP Egbetokun reaffirmed the Police Force’s commitment to enforcing laws with fairness and transparency while maintaining respect for citizens’ rights and deepening partnerships with key justice sector stakeholders.
