The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has reported full compliance with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive banning the use of police personnel for VIP escort and guard duties, following a nationwide enforcement drive that intensified in Lagos on December 6, 2025.
According to a statement issued by the Force Headquarters, a special enforcement team was deployed across Lagos State around 10:00 a.m. to assess adherence to the presidential order.
Officers monitored major hotspots, including the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge, the domestic wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, as well as other strategic locations.
The monitoring exercise revealed what the police described as a “satisfactory and commendable” level of compliance. No police officer was found on unauthorised VIP escort assignment, and the team recorded no arrests throughout the operation.
Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to fully implementing the president’s directive, emphasising that personnel previously attached to VIPs are being redeployed to core policing duties.
He noted that the policy is part of broader efforts to improve public safety, strengthen crime prevention, and ensure better protection of lives and property across the country.
The IGP assured Nigerians that the enforcement would continue nationwide “without fear or favour” and urged the public to support the ongoing reforms aimed at building a more professional, efficient, and citizen-focused police service.
