The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a suspect in connection with the death of fast-rising Nigerian singer, Adesina Afeez, popularly known as Destiny Boy.
The police revealed that the case has been escalated to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for an in-depth probe, as efforts intensify to unravel the circumstances surrounding the young artiste’s death.
In an official statement made issud on Monday, January 19, 2026, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Babaseyi Oluseyi, said investigations had commenced immediately after the incident was reported.
“The Ogun State Police Command has since commenced investigations into the death of Adesina Afeez, aged 22 years, popularly known as Destiny Boy. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Homicide Section, for detailed investigation. One suspect is currently in custody while investigations are ongoing”, the statement read.
The news of Destiny Boy’s death first broke on Sunday, sending shockwaves across the entertainment industry and social media space.
Disturbing videos showing the lifeless body of the singer being conveyed to a mortuary circulated widely online, triggering grief among fans and fuelling intense speculation about the cause of his demise.
In one of the viral clips, the late singer was seen lying at the back of a vehicle, with cotton wool placed in his nostrils and ears, a scene that further heightened public concern and controversy.
Amid the growing speculation, an attempt to clarify the circumstances surrounding the artiste’s death was made in a separate video by an unidentified associate.
The man urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified claims, stating that Destiny Boy had been battling a private health challenge before his death.
“God, I want to do this video before people start saying rubbish about Destiny Boy’s cause of death. We all came to this life to write our own history. May God rest his soul. Destiny was nursing a health issue in his body before he died. We tried for him, but he didn’t make it,” the associate said.
Born Afeez Adeshina, Destiny Boy discovered his passion for music early in life and carved a niche for himself with a distinctive Fuji-infused sound that resonated with many young Nigerians.
He began his journey in the entertainment industry at T2 Boys Studios in Agege, where he worked as a backup dancer for renowned Fuji maestro, Alhaji Wasiu Alabi Pasuma.
He shot into the limelight in 2019 after releasing a Fuji-style cover of Davido’s hit single If, which quickly went viral on social media and earned him widespread recognition.
He later released notable covers of songs by top artists such as Tekno, 2Baba, 9ice, and Small Doctor, further cementing his growing popularity.
Over the years, Destiny Boy released several original tracks, including Lamba, One Transaction, Gbese, Billion Dollar, Mio Gbonkankan, and Lowkey, building a loyal fan base before his untimely death.
The late singer is survived by his partner, Iremide, with whom he welcomed their first child in November 2024, barely months before his passing.
The Ogun State Police Command assured the public that further updates would be communicated as investigations progress.
