The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has confirmed the arrest of six suspects in connection with Friday’s deadly attack on Police Tactical Teams in Benue State.
The incident, which occurred on September 19, 2025, at IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun,was carried out by suspected armed herdsmen and local militias.
Three police officers were killed in the ambush, while seven others remain missing.
The Commissioner of Police in Benue State, CP Innocent Ifeanyi Emenari, is leading ongoing operations aimed at rescuing the missing personnel and tracking down the perpetrators.
Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, condemned the attack in strong terms, describing it as “cruel, unwarranted, and an affront on the good people of Benue State.”
According to a statement issued by Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the arrested suspects are already in custody and providing useful information to investigators. The IGP has also ordered the deployment of additional tactical assets to the area to reinforce security.
“The Nigeria Police Force urges members of the public to remain calm, vigilant, and supportive of security agencies as efforts are being intensified to rescue the missing officers, apprehend fleeing suspects, and dismantle the criminal networks behind such reprehensible attacks,” the statement read.
The Force further assured that no stone would be left unturned in restoring peace and security to Benue State.
