The Ogun State Police Command has arrested two officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and others over alleged electoral offences during Saturday’s federal constituency bye-election in Iperu Remo.
Police spokesperson Omolola Odutola said a patrol team intercepted a Mitsubishi Spacewagon with registration number LAGOS AKD 887 HT, carrying two INEC staff — Mr. Toryem Joe-Stans and Ms. Mandara Aminat — and their driver. A search of the vehicle uncovered ₦2.5 million, which Joe-Stans admitted collecting from a man known as “Political Solution” on his supervisor’s directive.
Commissioner of Police Lanre Ogunlowo ordered the suspects transferred to the State CID in Eleweran for investigation.
Meanwhile, in Kano State, INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner Abdu Zango confirmed the arrest of over 100 suspected political thugs in Bagwai LGA. He said security operatives seized the armed suspects as they tried to disrupt voting in the Bagwai/Shanono federal constituency, helping to restore calm and allow polling to continue.
Zango assured that those arrested would face prosecution.
