In a passionate bid to combat the growing number of out-of-school children in Nigeria and in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education), the Headmistress of People’s Basic School, Ring Road, Ibadan, Rotarian (Mrs) Olaronke Ola-Giwa, led an energetic awareness campaign through the streets of the Ring Road community today.
Teachers and pupils alike poured into the neighbourhood, carrying colourful placards with messages highlighting the importance of education for all children. The pupils marched cheerfully to the rhythm of drums, singing and dancing as they sensitised the public on the need to enrol every child in school.
Speaking during the event, Mrs Ola-Giwa emphasised the school’s commitment to supporting the Oyo State Government’s Free Education Programme, which is implemented through the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB). She encouraged parents and guardians to seize this golden opportunity to enrol their children without delay.
She stated:
“We are thrilled to re-present the FREE EDUCATION PROGRAMME of the Oyo State Government to our community. People’s Basic School offers more than just free education—we provide quality learning with well-trained and qualified teachers, a serene environment, modern instructional materials, and access to clean borehole water and reliable electricity.”
Mrs Ola-Giwa stressed that ensuring every child has access to education is not only a government responsibility but a collective one, urging community members to play their part in this noble mission.
The campaign drew the attention of many residents, some of whom expressed surprise that such robust facilities and dedicated staff were available at no cost. Several parents were seen engaging with the teachers to discuss enrolment and other issues.
This initiative is a reaffirmation of the state’s dedication to achieving inclusive, equitable and quality education for all children, ensuring that no child is left behind.
