Governor Seyi Makinde of the Oyo State has said that his political party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is not bothered about the high rate at which members are decamping to the All Progressive Congress (APC).
In his short remark after the inauguration of PDP’s South West Executive Committee held at the party’s secretariat, Soji AAdagunodo House, Old Ife Road, Ibadan, saying, “We will not be bothered until hunger has decamped to APC. The hunger decamps, they should come and tell us and then, we will know what to do.”
“There is hunger in the land. Majority of the people that are hungry will determine what 2027 will look like. So don’t bother. If any governor likes, let him decamp, we will stay with the people of Nigeria”, he added.
Responding to the article he read in the newspapers that PDP has been building strong men not institutions, Makinde explained, “I beg to differ. PDP lost power at the federal level in 2015 but PDP did not die. After PDP lost power in 2015, I read an article then, in 2017, they said PDP and its coats of many crises in Oyo State, after that crisis, we won election in Oyo State under PDP. We are here today to inaugurate the South West executive for PDP. How much of an institution do you still want? They may sponsor so many things against the party, do not be discouraged. PDP is the only party in Nigeria with very strong institutions. As leaders, we committed to strengthen institutions within PDP. So, hold on to your party. I repeat again, 2027 is not going to be APC versus PDP, It will be APC versus the people that are hungry in Nigeria.”
The new executive are Kamorudeen Ajisafe, re-elected chairman, Adeyemo Adetunji (treasurer); Yaya Adeleke (financial secretary); Atofarati Olusanya (publicity secretary); and Bamidele Seyi Abiola (youth leader)
