In a bid to enhance governance at the grassroots level, the Oyo State Government, through its Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, has organised a capacity-building workshop for 453 Local Government Supervisory Councillors and 420 Special Assistants across the 33 Local Government Areas of the state.
The workshop, held in Ibadan, aimed to equip the participants with practical skills and strategic knowledge necessary for effective governance and community development.
Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Hon. Ademola Ojo, represented by the Coordinating Director of the Ministry, Oladotun Olamide, described the training as a crucial step towards enhancing service delivery at the grassroots.
He lauded the administration of Governor ‘Seyi Makinde for its unwavering commitment to inclusive governance across the state.
Lead Consultant and lecturer from the Department of Agricultural Economics, University of Ibadan, Prof. Kemisola Adenegan, delivered an insightful lecture that focused on equipping participants with the competencies required to manage local government affairs efficiently.
She emphasised the importance of active involvement in decision-making processes and effective governance in their respective constituencies.
Speaking on behalf of the participants, the Supervisory Councillor for Youth and Sports, Iseyin Local Government, Hon. Hammed Adebisi, commended the initiative. He noted that the training would redefine how local leaders approach problem-solving and community development.
Adebisi also called for more training opportunities, stressing that local governments, as the closest tier to the people, require strong administrative structures to fulfill their mandates effectively.
