In a bid to ensure an impactful and memorable 2025 Children’s Day celebration, the Oyo State Government has inaugurated a Multi-Sectoral Planning Committee to coordinate activities for the event.
The inauguration, which took place on Thursday, May 14, 2025, at the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Inclusion’s boardroom in Ibadan, brought together representatives from key ministries, including Health, Education, Justice, Information, Youth and Sports, alongside security agencies and other stakeholders.
During the event, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Toyin Balogun, emphasised the importance of inclusiveness in planning, stressing that the committee’s work would foster a celebration that not only empowers children to voice their concerns but also equips caregivers and educators with the tools to combat bullying.
Balogun highlighted this year’s theme, “Stand Up, Speak Up: Building a Bullying-Free Generation,” as a call to action for parents, guardians, and community leaders to nurture children who are confident, respected, and safe.
She noted that bullying undermines children’s rights, dignity, and mental well-being.
“Today, we reaffirm our commitment to ensuring that no child in Oyo State suffers in silence,” Balogun declared, appreciating the unwavering support of Governor Seyi Makinde. She commended the Governor’s dedication to child development and well-being, describing his contributions as an inspiration to their collective efforts.
She also extended appreciation to development partners and stakeholders for their continued collaboration, expressing optimism for a successful Children’s Day celebration that inspires positive change.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Mofoluwake Ibitoye, urged committee members to be proactive and dedicated in their planning.
“As we begin the journey of planning for Children’s Day 2025, let us be guided by our collective responsibility to amplify the voices of children and create spaces where they feel heard, safe, and empowered,” Ibitoye stated.
