In a renewed effort to deepen grassroots development across Oyo State, the Oyo State Community and Social Development Agency (OYCSDA) on Tuesday, July 2, 2025, disbursed funds to 30 communities for the execution of various micro-projects aimed at improving living standards.
The disbursement, which took place at the House of Chiefs, Secretariat, Ibadan, marked another milestone under Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration and is in line with the government’s strategic blueprint tagged Oyo State Roadmap to Sustainable Development 2023–2027 (Omituntun 2.0).
Speaking at the training and fund disbursement event, the Chairman of OYCSDA, Hon. Abideen Adetokunbo Adeaga, commended Governor Makinde for his unwavering commitment to grassroots empowerment.
He disclosed that the projects were tailored to meet the specific needs of each benefiting community.
According to Adeaga, the interventions include the construction of culverts and lined drainages in five communities, construction or renovation of community health centres in seven communities, building or refurbishing blocks of three classrooms in 18 communities, and the drilling of motorized boreholes in all 30 communities.
“These micro-projects are carefully designed to expand access to primary healthcare, education, potable water, and good roads. They will not only improve infrastructure but also create employment opportunities and promote a healthier and more educated population.” He said.
He further noted that the agency had expanded its coverage significantly since 2022 adding, “Initially, 48 communities benefited from the OYO-CARES programme with a grant limit of ₦15 million. However, Governor Makinde, responding to inflation and community needs, increased the grant to ₦18 million per project and approved an extension to 66 more communities, bringing the total to 114 communities implementing 256 micro-projects.”
Adeaga also revealed that the latest intervention adds another 30 communities to the scheme, further demonstrating the government’s commitment to inclusive development.
Also speaking at the event, the Deputy Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly and Chairman of the House Committee on Project Monitoring, Rt. Hon. Abiodun Muhammed Fadeyi, urged the beneficiary communities to ensure transparency and accountability in the execution of their projects.
He emphasised that the Oyo State Anti-Corruption Agency (OYACA) would closely monitor implementation to ensure compliance with public financial regulations.
On behalf of the communities, Prof. Israel Adesiyan, Chairman of the Agbedo Community Management Committee, expressed gratitude to the state government and the agency.
He lauded the Makinde-led administration’s focus on rural development and pledged the communities’ support and cooperation in ensuring successful project delivery.
“These projects are not just structures; they are lifelines for our people. We deeply appreciate the governor’s inclusive governance approach and pray that his administration finishes strong,” Adesiyan stated.
The OYCSDA initiative continues to play a pivotal role in bridging infrastructure gaps in underserved areas, fostering community ownership and participatory development throughout Oyo State.
