The Oyo State Anti-Corruption Agency (OYACA) has secured the conviction of Wahab Nasiru Olabanji, a civil servant, for fraudulently collecting money from unsuspecting job seekers under the guise of securing them employment in government agencies.
Olabanji, who was a Chief Executive Officer (Accounts) on Grade Level 14 at the Oyo State Hospital Management Board, was convicted on a 30-count charge bordering on official corruption, obtaining money under false pretence, and conversion.
According to a statement signed by OYACA Chairman, Hon. Justice Eni Esan (rtd), the court delivered its judgment on Friday, August 1, 2025, after a 17-month-long trial. The defendant was found guilty on all charges and sentenced to six months imprisonment with an option of ₦50,000 fine on each count.
“The court also ordered the defendant to pay all sums fraudulently obtained from his victims within three months to remedy the wrongs suffered due to his corrupt and fraudulent actions,” the statement read.
Olabanji was said to have collected various sums from victims who applied for jobs during recent recruitment exercises by the Oyo State Hospital Management Board and the State Teaching Service Commission.
Justice Esan reaffirmed OYACA’s commitment to rooting out corruption from the Oyo State public service and warned that any public official found guilty of corrupt practices would face the full wrath of the law.
She urged the public to report any suspected corrupt activities to the agency, stressing that accountability and integrity must remain the bedrock of public service in the state.
