The Rapid Response Team of the Ondo State Police Command has arrested three suspected kidnappers, namely Umar, Muhammadu, and Sabiu, during a routine stop-and-search operation at a junction along Ilara Road.
According to a press statement issued and signed by the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abayomi Jimoh, items recovered from the suspects are one machete, one locally fabricated revolver pistol, one live cartridge, and a Bajaj motorcycle.
The police said that during interrogation, the suspects could not give a satisfactory explanation for having these items.
“Following their apprehension, the suspects made useful confessional statements, which have provided valuable leads and are significantly aiding ongoing investigations. These revelations have assisted the Command in identifying other members of the criminal gang believed to be responsible for terrorising residents of Ondo State, particularly from neighbouring communities”, the statement stated.
The statement added, “Efforts have since been intensified to apprehend other suspects, while all those found culpable will be made to face the full weight of the law. Upon the conclusion of investigations, the arrested suspects will be charged to court accordingly.”
