Nigeria has lost one of its notable public servants, Olusegun Awolowo, a former Executive Director of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) and grandson of the late nationalist and statesman, Chief Obafemi Awolowo.
He passed away at the age of 62.
His family confirmed the tragic news in a heartfelt statement on Thursday, November 14, 2025, expressing deep sorrow over the loss of a man they described as the pillar of their home and a devoted servant of the nation.
“With extremely heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Olusegun Awolowo. He was the world’s most phenomenal husband, father, and grandfather, steady, wise, endlessly loving, and the constant anchor of our family”, the statement read. “
The family eulogised him as a man whose life embodied loyalty, humility, and unwavering patriotism.
“A painfully loyal servant to Nigeria, he dedicated his life to the service of his country with vision, integrity, passion, and unwavering commitment, He was a true family man, a great friend, a wonderful servant of God, and a deeply beautiful human being.” they said.
They added that Awolowo lived with purpose and generosity, touching the lives of everyone around him. “We are shattered by this loss, but forever grateful for his life, his legacy, and the love he poured into all of us. May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace.”
Olusegun Awolowo held several key public service positions during his career and was widely respected for his contributions to national development, particularly in advancing Nigeria’s export sector.
Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family.
