The First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called on Nigerians to embrace the country’s diversity as a source of strength, urging citizens to work collectively towards building a safe, united, and prosperous nation.
Senator Tinubu made this appeal during a courtesy visit to traditional rulers in Enugu State, as part of her two-day working visit to the state.
Speaking during the engagement, the First Lady described Nigeria’s traditional rulers as the “eyes and ears of government at the grassroots,” emphasising their vital role in shaping and guiding communities.
She urged the monarchs to support her ongoing advocacies focused on public health, particularly the fight against cervical cancer, tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, and Female Genital Mutilation (FGM).
“As leaders, we are responsible to take care of all Nigerians, political affiliation notwithstanding. Nigeria is a beautiful country, and no one should be hindered from visiting any part of it. We pray our security improves so Nigeria can attain lasting safety and peace,” she stated.
Senator Tinubu also highlighted forthcoming projects under the Renewed Hope Initiative, including Flow with Confidence, aimed at ensuring no adolescent girl misses school due to menstrual challenges, and the Environment Club/Society, which encourages secondary and tertiary students to engage in environmental preservation efforts.
The First Lady’s visit was warmly received by traditional leaders, with the Chairman of the Enugu State Traditional Council, His Royal Highness Samuel Asadu, commending her dedication and that of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to national development.
He noted that harmful cultural practices affecting women had been eradicated in the state adding while signing support for the Tinubu’s administration stated, “For us here in Enugu, we the traditional rulers say, there is no vacancy in Aso Rock.”
Later at the official distribution of professional kits to midwives in the South East geopolitical zone, Senator Tinubu expressed satisfaction with the completion of the nationwide distribution of scrubs and crocs.
“Since the initial launch in January 2025, we have distributed 50,000 scrubs and 50,000 pairs of crocs to five geopolitical zones, North Central, North East, North West, South South, and South West. Today in Enugu, we complete this exercise with the South East,” she said.
The working visit underscores the First Lady’s continued commitment to grassroots development, women’s health, and national unity under the Renewed Hope Initiative.
