The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, will on Friday confer new traditional titles on nine senior chiefs in the Otun Olubadan line, advancing the city’s age-long succession hierarchy and reaffirming the stability of its revered chieftaincy system.
In a statement issued by the monarch’s Media Aide, Mr Adeola Oloko, the elevation ceremony is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. at the Oke-Aremo Palace, where members of the Olubadan-in-Council are expected to join the monarch in performing the rites.
Topping the list of those to be honored is Chief Olumuyiwa Makinde, an Ibadan-based legal practitioner and elder brother to the Oyo State Governor. He will move from Aare Onibon to the prestigious title of Gbonka Olubadan.
Renowned engineer and business mogul, Chief Dotun Sanusi, is also billed for elevation, from Ajia to Bada Olubadan, while federal lawmaker, Chief Akin Alabi, progresses from Jagun to Ajia Olubadan.
However, the palace noted that promotions from the Mogaji rank to the coveted Jagun Olubadan title have been suspended pending further directives.
The full list of chiefs slated for elevation includes:
Chief Dauda Kolawole Gbadamosi – Elevated from Aare Ago to Ayingun Olubadan
Chief William Oyeleke Akande – From Lagunna to Aare Ago Olubadan
Chief Oluyinka Akande – From Oota to Lagunna Olubadan
