The Olubadan-designate, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, on Monday returned to Ibadan after completing the mandatory 21-day mourning period for his immediate predecessor, the late Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin.
Ladoja, who was outside Ibadan at the time of Oba Olakulehin’s passing, deliberately stayed away from the city throughout the mourning and burial rites in honour of the departed monarch.
His return to his Bodija residence was greeted with jubilation, as excited residents and well-wishers thronged the area to welcome him back.
The former governor of Oyo State and ex-senator also paid a visit to his family compound at Isale Osi, where he received blessings and warm reception from relatives and community members.
While Ladoja was away, the Olubadan-in-Council had formally recommended his name to Governor Seyi Makinde as the next Olubadan of Ibadanland. The governor has since approved his nomination.
With his return, Oba Ladoja is expected to immediately commence the rites leading to his enthronement as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland. The process begins with a seven-day exclusion, after which other traditional and coronation activities will follow.
