Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has announced the disappearance of a 300-level student, Dorcas Oseghale, and intensified efforts to locate her.
Dorcas, of the Department of Chemistry (Matric No: CHM/2021/165), was last seen on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at about 8:00 p.m., after leaving her residence at Adesanmi House along Ibadan Road to buy food near the Students’ Village on Ede Road. She never returned.
Her roommate, Akinkuade Omobolanle Beatrice of Agricultural Extension, raised the alarm after repeated attempts to reach Dorcas failed, with both her phone lines switched off. By Thursday afternoon, reports of her disappearance had spread across student social media platforms.
The university’s Security Unit began monitoring discussions and gathering intelligence before the case was formally reported at 6:10 p.m. by students from the Chemistry Department and Dorcas’s roommate. Three security officers were assigned to conduct preliminary investigations, after which the matter was handed over to the Nigerian Police for further action.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Adebayo Simeon Bamire commended students for their prompt response and solidarity, describing their efforts as admirable. He urged anyone with useful information on Dorcas’s whereabouts to contact the nearest police station or the university’s Security Unit.
