The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has confirmed a fire outbreak at Terminal 1 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, in Lagos, with emergency teams currently battling to contain the incident.
Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo (SAN), said firefighting operations were swiftly activated following the outbreak, with responders working to bring the situation under control and prevent further damage.
He disclosed that passengers and airport personnel were being evacuated in an orderly manner while emergency measures were intensified through mutual aid support. Reinforcements were mobilised from the Lagos State Government, Julius Berger Nigeria PLC, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, among other response agencies.
Authorities reassured the public that no fatalities had been recorded as of the time of the update, stressing that all necessary steps were being taken to protect lives and property.
FAAN added that verified updates would be released as emergency operations continue and more details emerge.
