The family of Emeritus Professor Biodun Jeyifo, pioneer president of the Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities (ASUU) has announced his funeral arrangements.
Jeyifo, a distinguished literary scholar and influential voice in Nigeria’s academic movement, will be honoured in a series of events scheduled to take place in Ibadan, Oyo State.
According to the programme released by the family, the funeral rites will commence with an evening of tributes on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at Omolayole Hall, International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan, from 4 pm to 7 pm.
The event is expected to draw leading scholars, unionists, students, and prominent members of the public.
A lying-in-state will hold on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at TOS Funeral Homes, 1–3 Surulere Street, Oke-Ado Market Road, Ibadan, from 9 am to 10 am. This will be followed by another lying-in-state at his residence on Jeyifous Street, Oke Bola, Ibadan, from 11 am to 12 noon.
Interment will take place at 1 pm on the same day at the Anglican Cemetery, St. James The Great Cathedral Burial Ground, Ijikodo, Ibadan.
Widely respected for his contributions to literary scholarship and university unionism, Jeyifo played a foundational role in shaping academic advocacy and intellectual engagement within Nigeria’s university system. His legacy continues to resonate within the academic community and beyond.
