The Nigeria Police Force (NPF), has reiterated the importance of the Central Motor Registry (CMR) in safeguarding lives and property, particularly vehicles, as part of its constitutional mandate.
The NPF is targeting several billions of Naira annually as revenue generation from the e-CMR which cost N5,000 per vehicle renewable yearly at the same amount
According to the Force, the CMR, which is under its management, is backed by Section 4 of the Police Act and Section 214 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), both of which empower the police to maintain law and order, and protect public and private assets.
The Police explained that the digital version of the registry, known as the e-CMR, is a crucial tool in the fight against vehicle theft, adding that it aids in the recovery of stolen vehicles, verification of rightful ownership, and overall prevention of car-related crimes.
“The e-CMR is not just another document; it is your car’s digital protection powered by law,” the Force noted.
Vehicle owners were encouraged to register their vehicles via the official police website, describing the process as a simple and affordable step toward securing their assets.
“By registering your vehicle, you’re partnering with the police to keep your valuable asset secure. It offers peace of mind while driving on Nigerian roads,” the statement added.
The Nigeria Police Force urged the public to take advantage of the e-CMR platform and support ongoing efforts to curb car theft and improve road security across the country.
