The Nigeria Police Force has recorded a major breakthrough in its ongoing fight against cross-border crimes with the successful recovery and return of multiple stolen vehicles that were trafficked from Nigeria to neighbouring countries.
The operations, coordinated through the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB), Abuja, led to the recovery of high-value vehicles stolen during robbery incidents in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
In one of the operations, operatives of INTERPOL NCB Abuja, working in conjunction with INTERPOL NCB Accra, recovered a 2020 model Toyota Prado in Accra, Ghana.
The vehicle, which belongs to a Federal Government agency in Nigeria, had been stolen during a robbery in Abuja.
Three suspects were apprehended in Ghana and have since been arraigned in court in Accra.
The vehicle has been successfully returned to Nigeria and officially handed over to the concerned agency.
In a similar development, a 2018 model Toyota Hilux, also belonging to a Federal Government agency, was recovered by INTERPOL NCB Abuja with assistance from INTERPOL NCB Niamey.
The vehicle was stolen from an agency staff member in Utako District, Abuja, on 18th October 2024.
Following extensive investigations and collaboration, the vehicle was traced to Agadez, Niger Republic, and formally handed over at the Nigeria-Niger border (Ilela/Konni) to a senior representative of the agency.
Additionally, the Nigeria Police Force disclosed that it is finalising efforts to recover and return two more vehicles, a Toyota Land Cruiser SUV and a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado SUV, stolen from their owners in Abuja in May 2025 and trafficked to Niamey, Niger Republic.
The Force has urged all vehicle owners to register their vehicles on the Police electronic platforms and adopt precautionary measures to increase the chances of swift recovery in the event of theft.
These operations mark yet another significant milestone in the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to international cooperation and the fight against transnational crimes.
