Nigeria and Cameroon have signed a bilateral agreement to strengthen technical cooperation on aeronautical search and rescue operations, a move aimed at improving airspace safety and emergency response across their shared borders.
Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo (SAN), disclosed that the agreement was signed during a high-level meeting with Cameroon’s Minister of Transport, Jean Ernest NgalNgallé Bibehe, in Yaounde, Cameroon.
According to Keyamo, the pact between the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Republic of Cameroon is designed to enhance coordination and ensure faster responses to aviation emergencies within the two countries’ airspaces.
He noted that the agreement establishes a framework for joint technical operations, information sharing and cross-border collaboration in aeronautical search and rescue missions, thereby strengthening regional aviation safety mechanisms.
Keyamo said the Nigerian delegation included the Director-General of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), the Managing Director of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), and key Directors from the Ministry, reflecting what he described as a coordinated national approach to implementing the agreement.
The minister expressed confidence that the partnership would bolster emergency preparedness and reinforce bilateral cooperation in the aviation sector between both countries.
