Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South Senatorial District, has called for decisive and uncompromising action against bandits responsible for widespread killings and sexual violence across parts of the country, arguing that security agencies should not hesitate to neutralise them once identified.
Speaking on the worsening insecurity, the Borno South lawmaker said the continued emphasis on human rights considerations for terrorists and violent criminals was misplaced, given the scale of atrocities being committed against innocent citizens.
According to Ndume, bandits involved in mass killings, rape, and destruction of communities have forfeited any moral claim to human rights protection.
The senator stressed that the primary responsibility of the state is to protect law-abiding citizens, particularly vulnerable groups, noting that continued attacks have left many communities traumatised and displaced.
Ndume’s remarks come amid renewed public debate over the balance between human rights, rule of law and the urgent need to end armed banditry and terrorism in the country.
