Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested the founder and General Overseer of The Turn of Mercy Church, Prophet Adefolusho Aanu Olasele, also known as Abbas Ajakaiye, for allegedly masterminding multiple illicit drug shipments into Nigeria.
The cleric, who had reportedly fled abroad to evade capture, was apprehended on Sunday, August 3, 2025, at his church along Okun Ajah, Ogombo Road, Lekki, Lagos. NDLEA spokesman, Femi Babafemi, said operatives waited until the end of the Sunday worship service before executing the arrest.
Prophet Adefolusho had been on the agency’s wanted list since June, following two major seizures of Ghana Loud, a potent strain of cannabis, traced to him. The first seizure of 200kg was made at Okun Ajah beach on June 4, while another 700kg was recovered from his delivery van on July 6.
According to Babafemi, the suspect allegedly confessed to smuggling the drugs via waterways from Ghana into Nigeria and admitted fleeing to Ghana after narrowly escaping arrest on two occasions. The NDLEA said investigations are ongoing and the cleric will face prosecution.
