The Nigerian Army has announced that its Headquarters 2 Division Training School will be conducting a Range Classification Exercise from Wednesday, July 9 to Thursday, July 11, 2025, at the Major General O.F. Azinta Shooting Range within the Adekunle Fajuyi Cantonment.
The advisory is especially for residents of Ojoo, Olorunda, and surrounding communities of the Cantonment.
The exercise, described as a routine military training activity, is part of the Basic Battle Course currently being undertaken by student soldiers at the training school. This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations for 2 Division, Lieutenant Colonel Polycarp Okoye.
According to the statement, the exercise is designed to sharpen the weapon-handling skills of the trainees and assess their overall combat readiness.
“The exercise is designed to refresh and enhance the weapon-handling proficiency of trainees as professional soldiers,” said Lt. Col. Okoye.
“It is also aimed at evaluating the overall level of training and operational readiness of the troops for battle and other assigned military duties.”
In anticipation of the range activity, the Army has urged residents living near the Adekunle Fajuyi Cantonment not to be alarmed by the sound of gunfire, which will be heard during the exercise period.
“Members of the public, particularly those residing around the cantonment, are kindly advised not to be alarmed by the sound of gunshots during the exercise,” the Army’s statement read.
Additionally, individuals involved in farming or hunting activities around the barracks have been strongly advised to stay away from the shooting range for their safety throughout the duration of the exercise.
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining high standards in training and preparedness and expressed appreciation to the public for its continued cooperation and understanding.
