Dr. Chike Akunyili, husband to late former Information Minister and Director General of NAFDAC , Prof. Dora Akunyili, has been reportedly murdered by gunmen at Umuoji in Idemili North LGA of Anambra State on Tuesday evening.
It was gathered that Akunyili, a medical doctor was killed on his way from Onitsha to Umuoji at Eke Nkpor.
His driver and police escort were also killed.
Earlier on Tuesday, Akunyili had attended a lecture at Sharon Hall, All Saints Cathedral, Onitsha, which was organized by the University of Nigeria Nsukka Alumni Association (UNAA), Onitsha branch, in honour of his late wife, Prof Dora Akunyili, where he was said to have made a donation of N500,000 to the association.
It was gathered that his son, Obum, who works with Anambra State government, was also present at the event.
There is no official confirmation yet of the unfortunate incidence from the Police in the state.
A video of the incident, circulating online which is, however, too graphic to be included here, shows the left side of the face of the late Akunyili already blown off as he tried to rise from the side of the road but could not.
