The Lagos State Police Command has recorded major breakthroughs in its fight against crime, with the arrest of a suspected vandal and six gang members linked to criminal activities across the state.
According to the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, apprehended one Safiyanu Abubakar, 20, for alleged vandalism.
Details of the incident are still under investigation, with authorities working to determine the full extent of the suspect’s involvement.
In a separate operation, six suspected members of a criminal gang were arrested by operatives of the Command during a routine patrol. The suspects, Yakubu Oke, 48; Teslim Balogun, 33; Emmanuel Osas, 33; Joseph Abah, 34; Idris Adewunmi, 32; and Opeyemi Kolawole, 28, were intercepted and questioned by officers after their movements and identities raised suspicion.
A subsequent search led to the discovery of two locally fabricated pistols, 16 rounds of 9mm ammunition, 17 live cartridges, and an unregistered 1999 Toyota Camry believed to have been stolen.
Further investigation revealed that the suspects belong to a notorious gang previously listed on the police watchlist for various crimes committed across multiple locations in Lagos.
The arrested individuals are said to be cooperating with investigators and have already provided valuable information expected to aid the arrest of additional suspects and uncover more criminal networks.
CSP Hundeyin confirmed that investigations are ongoing, and the suspects would be charged to court upon conclusion of the case.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has reiterated the Command’s determination to rid the state of all forms of criminal activity.
He urged residents to remain security-conscious and promptly report suspicious movements to the nearest police station.
“The safety of Lagosians remains our top priority. We are fully committed to protecting lives and property and maintaining peace and security across the state,” CP Jimoh assured.
