Nollywood actress Jumoke George has shared emotional details about the struggles she faced in her career, revealing that she was sidelined in the movie industry for 14 years because she refused to sleep around in the entertainment industry.
Speaking in an interview, George revealed that her refusal to “sleep around” cost her acting opportunities, as she was no longer invited for roles by producers and directors.
“For 14 years, I was not invited to act because I refused to sleep around,” she said.
After overcoming her challenges, George begged producers to invite her for acting roles, saying, “All directors should consider inviting me for acting roles.”
Despite the challenges, the veteran actress said she has found strength in personal development and spiritual growth.
George revealed that she has returned to school and is currently a student of Celestial Theology School.
Her journey in theological studies started many years ago. In 1998, she enrolled at the World of Faith Bible Institute (WOFBI) under the Winners’ Chapel, where she completed a basic certificate course. The following year, in 1999, she attended Mount Carmel Bible Institute of the CAC Church, earning a Leadership Certificate.
The actress also spoke about the financial hardship she endured during the long break in her acting career, saying there were times she had nothing to eat.
“Things have been very bad with me. There was a time I couldn’t get anything to eat. There was a day I called Biodun Okeowo for help, and she sent me N30,000. There was another day I went to Afeez Owo to go and eat. I collected food from him and took it home to eat”, she recounted.
George expressed gratitude to those who supported her and called on the film industry to give her another chance to showcase her talent.
Her revelations add to the ongoing conversations about exploitation, neglect, and the plight of many veterans in Nollywood.
