The minimum benchmark for admission into Nigerian universities for the 2025 academic session has been fixed at 150, following the decision reached at the annual policy meeting on admissions organised by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) on Monday.
This resolution, adopted by vice-chancellors and heads of tertiary institutions across the country, overrides the earlier recommendation of 160 made by the JAMB Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede.
With this development, no university in Nigeria will be permitted to admit candidates who scored below 150 in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
Some newly established private universities had proposed a lower cut-off of 120, but the suggestion was rejected at the meeting.
Meanwhile, several top-tier institutions, including the University of Ibadan (UI), University of Lagos (UNILAG), Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), and Pan-Atlantic University, opted for a significantly higher benchmark, setting their minimum UTME scores at 200.
