The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has refuted that the commission has released the Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2027 Election, stating, “The Commission wishes to state clearly that this information is false and misleading. INEC has not released any timetable or schedule of activities for the 2027 General Election.
According to a statement signed by the CPS/ Media Adviser to the INEC Chairman, the Commission reiterates that it operates strictly within the provisions of the law.
It stated, “In particular, Section 28(1) of the Electoral Act, 2022 provides that the Commission shall publish a Notice of Election not later than 360 days before the date appointed for a general election. Any timetable or schedule issued outside this statutory framework cannot emanate from INEC.”
INEC assures Nigerians that the official Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2027 General Election will be released in due course, in full compliance with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) and the Electoral Act, 2022. When released, it will be communicated through the Commission’s established and verified channels.
The Commission urges the public and the media to disregard the fake reports and always rely on information from INEC’s official platforms for accurate and authoritative updates.
Earlier, some media outlets reported that INEC has released a timetable for the 2027 elections, highlighting dates for electoral activities including voter registration, parties’ primaries, campaigns, and the conduct of the elections.
The report stated that Continuous Voters’ Registration (CVR) will hold between April 2006 and January 2027.
It stated that during the period, eligible Nigerians can register as new voters, replace lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), transfer their voting locations, and update records upon turning 18.
It stated further that political parties’ primaries for all elective positions would be held between July 1 and September 30, 2026, adding that parties are expected to hold congresses at ward, local government, state, and national levels, and submit the outcomes of their primaries to INEC within one week of conclusion.
All the political parties are to submit candidate lists between October 1 and 31, 2025. They must upload the names of their candidates and running mates through INEC’s online nomination portal, with the final list of candidates to be published on November 15, 2026.
Presidential and National Assembly elections’ campaign are schduled for November 18, 2026, to February 19, 2027. Campaigns for governorship and state Assembly elections will hold between December 15, 2026, and March 5, 2027.
Elections for the Presidential and National Assembly will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2027, while the Governorship and State Assembly elections will take place on Saturday, March 6, 2027.
Other key activities include the display of the voters’ register in October 2026 and the collection of PVCs from December 2026 to February 2027. INEC will also conduct training for ad-hoc election staff during this period.
The distribution of sensitive and non-sensitive election materials is scheduled between February and March 2027, ensuring that all logistical arrangements are completed ahead of the polls.
