The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to strengthening national security through the ongoing implementation of the Presidential Directive ordering the withdrawal and redeployment of police personnel attached to Very Important Persons (VIPs).
Speaking on the progress of the directive during a strategic conference with senior police officers, the IGP explained that the withdrawal exercise is crucial to enhancing manpower for general policing duties, improving operational efficiency, and ensuring the safety of citizens across the country.
According to the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, Egbetokun disclosed that 11,566 officers have so far been withdrawn from VIP protection assignments.
He noted that these personnel would be immediately redeployed to bolster policing efforts nationwide, especially in critical areas that require increased security presence.
He stressed that the decision aligns with broader reforms aimed at repositioning the Police Force for optimal service delivery.
Reiterating the unwavering resolve of the Nigeria Police Force, the IGP assured that the Force would continue to adopt and intensify all necessary measures to guarantee a safe, secure, and peaceful environment for every citizen, resident, and visitor in Nigeria.
