The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, decorated two distinguished officers, ACP Aliyu Shaba and CSP Sentome Obi, winners of the 2023 and 2024 Police Officer of the Year awards, with their new ranks at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.
The decoration ceremony, held at the IGP Smart Conference Room, Louis Edet House, Abuja, underscored the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to recognising and rewarding excellence and professionalism among its officers.
In his remarks, IGP Egbetokun reiterated the Force Management’s policy that any officer who wins the Police Officer of the Year Award, receives the IGP Commendation Award, or wins category awards in two consecutive years will be recommended to the Police Service Commission for accelerated promotion.
The IGP stated, “The doors of honour and recognition remain open but only for those who distinguish themselves through hard work, professionalism, excellence, and service discipline.”

In a related development, the IGP also hosted a high-level delegation from the National Pension Commission (PenCom), led by its Director-General, Ms. Omolola B. Oluworaran, and the Managing Director of NPF Pensions Limited, Mr. Kolade Morakinyo.
The visit featured an extensive interactive session attended by senior police officers from the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police and above.
Discussions focused on improving retirement benefits for serving and retired police personnel, addressing longstanding concerns around pensions and post-service welfare.
The IGP expressed optimism that current efforts to reform the police pension system would soon yield tangible improvements, particularly for retired officers facing economic hardship.
He reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to enhancing welfare packages across the board and emphasised that the leadership remains focused on building a professionally competent, service-oriented, rule of law-compliant, and citizen-friendly police institution.
“The wellbeing of our officers, both serving and retired, remains a top priority,” IGP Egbetokun added.
