The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, decorated newly promoted senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force with their new ranks at a colourful ceremony held at the Goodluck Jonathan Peacekeeping Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
The event, marked by celebration and pride, reflected the IGP’s resolve to reward hard work, diligence, and professionalism within the Force.
According to a statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, a total of 16 top officers were decorated, including one Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) promoted to Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG), four Commissioners of Police (CPs) elevated to AIGs, and eleven Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCs) promoted to substantive CPs.
Among those decorated were DIG Mohammed Dankwara; AIGs Denimen Abibo, Umar Madaki, Nkechi Eze, and Garba Nzukwen; and CPs Naziru Kankarofi, Nendel Gomwalk, Tijani Fatai, Aniefok Akpan, and Moorkwap Dongshal, among others.
The officers were part of the 923 personnel who successfully passed the rigorous promotion exercise conducted by the Police Service Commission (PSC).
The process, which involved written examinations and oral interviews, followed recommendations from the Inspector-General of Police.
The ceremony drew an impressive gathering of dignitaries, including Senator Simon Lalong, former Governor of Plateau State; Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State; Senator Abdul-Aziz Yari, former Governor of Zamfara State; Senator (Dr.) Tony Nwoye of Anambra North; Senator Iya Abbas of Adamawa Central; and Senator Ede Dafinone of Delta Central.
Also in attendance were the Minister of State for Regional Development, FCT, Hon. Alhaji Ahmadu; Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Defence, Ambassador Gabriel Aduda; Founder of Al-Hikmah University, Alhaji (Chief) Dr. Abdul-Raheem Oladimeji, OFR; members of the Force Management Team; retired senior police officers; and families of the newly promoted officers.
In his address, IGP Egbetokun congratulated the officers, charging them to uphold integrity, fairness, and justice in their leadership roles. He emphasized the need for them to embrace community-oriented and intelligence-led policing as well as innovative strategies to combat evolving security challenges.
“Your promotion is not just a reward for past performance but a call to greater responsibility. Lead with honour, serve with dedication, and continue to inspire the younger generation of officers to give their best to our great nation”, the IGP said.
He reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to building a modern, professional, and accountable police service that earns the trust and confidence of the Nigerian people.
