The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on Monday, March 9, 2026, decorated eight senior officers newly promoted to the rank of Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) during a ceremony held at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.
Speaking at the event, Disu said the promotion to DIG recognises decades of service, professional performance, and leadership within the Nigeria Police Force.
He said the elevation carries responsibility for providing strategic direction, strengthening internal discipline, and advancing reforms within the Force.
The police chief urged the newly promoted officers to apply their experience in intelligence-led policing, operational coordination, and inter-agency collaboration to address evolving security challenges.

He also called on them to uphold accountability while working to strengthen public confidence in policing.
Disu expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support to the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and commended the Police Service Commission for maintaining transparency and professionalism in the promotion process. He also acknowledged the families of the promoted officers for their support throughout their careers.
The officers decorated as Deputy Inspectors-General of Police are Zachariah Fera Achinyan, Zango Ibrahim Baba, Isyaku Mohammed, Margaret Agebe Ochalla, Mohammed Abdul Sulaiman, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, Fayoade Adegoke Mustapha and Umar Shehu Nadada.
With the promotions, the eight officers join the Force Management Team alongside the Inspector-General of Police and the Force Secretary, Olabode Adeleye Akinbamilowo.
Dignitaries at the ceremony included Kabir Alhassan Rurum, Chairman of the House Committee on Air Force; Temitope Ilori, Director-General of the National Agency for the Control of AIDS; former Head of the Civil Service of the Federation Danladi Kefas; former Chairman of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency, Jide Adeniji; Kogi State Commissioner Muhammed Abdulmutalik; the Zazzau of Zaria; Arese Arase, wife of former Inspector-General of Police Solomon Arase; former spokesperson of the Department of State Services, Marilyn Ogar; and retired senior police officers including Austin Iwa and Alobi.
