Yoruba Nation agitator, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, on Monday, January 26, 2026, had shown gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for being magnanimous in removing his name from the Federal Government’s wanted list.
Igboho also thanked the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, who paid a visit to Tinubu in Abuja with a request that Igboho’s name should be removed from the Federal Government’s wanted list, a request Tinubu granted.
It would be recalled that the late President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration declared Igboho wanted and froze his bank accounts over allegations of stockpiling arms and ammunition.
On July 1, 2021, operatives of the Department of State Security (DSS) backed by some personnel of the Nigerian Army invaded the residence of Igboho, located around Soka, killing two of his aides and arrested 13 others.
He expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Olubadan of Ibadanland over what he described as the resolution of issues surrounding his travails with Nigerian authorities.
Speaking during a visit to the Olubadan’s palace in Ibadan, Igboho disclosed that the monarch personally intervened on his behalf during a visit to President Tinubu, leading to assurances that he is now free to return to Nigeria and live peacefully in his hometown.
According to Igboho, the Olubadan contacted him last Friday, January 23, 2026, at about 10:10 a.m., informing him that he was with President Tinubu and that his case had been settled.
“I thank President Bola Ahmed Tinubu that my father, the Olubadan, paid him a visit. Last Friday, the Olubadan called me and told me he was with President Tinubu and that my case had been settled. He said I am now a free man and that I should return to Nigeria and live freely in Ibadan with my family,” Igboho said.
He described the development as a moment of joy, adding that his visit to the palace was to personally thank the Olubadan for his intervention and show appreciation for his fatherly role.
Igboho also called on the Yoruba people to appreciate President Tinubu, noting that his intervention was beneficial to him as a Yoruba man.
“I want all Yoruba people to thank President Tinubu. I have this opportunity because Tinubu is a Yoruba man. If a non-Yoruba man were to be the president, I might not have been granted freedom,” he stated.
He maintained his innocence over allegations previously linked to him, insisting that he was wrongly implicated.
“I was implicated. I did not kill anybody. That is why I am here today to thank the Olubadan,” he added.
Igboho further urged Yoruba people to embrace unity for the progress of the region and the benefit of future generations, warning against insulting elders and traditional authorities.
“Yoruba must be united for the sake of generations unborn so that there can be progress in Yorubaland. We should stop insulting our parents,” he said.
He also commended President Tinubu’s efforts in improving security across Yorubaland, noting that the administration is working hard to ensure safety in the region.
