The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) has attributed the lingering power outages and erratic electricity supply across its network to a sharp reduction in load allocation from the national grid.
In a public notice released on Monday, December 16, 2025, the distribution company admitted that customers in Oyo, Kwara, Ogun and Osun states, as well as the Ibadan metropolis, have been experiencing prolonged blackouts and unstable power supply, describing the situation as regrettable.
IBEDC explained that the disruption is beyond its immediate control, arising from a significant drop in the quantum of electricity made available to it from the national grid.
The development, the company said, has severely limited the amount of power it can distribute to consumers within its franchise areas.
“The intermittent supply and extended outage periods currently being experienced are a direct consequence of reduced load allocation from the national grid, which has constrained the volume of electricity available for distribution,” the company stated.
To address the challenge, IBEDC disclosed that it is in active engagement with the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) and the Nigeria Independent System Operator (NISO) to explore measures that could restore supply stability and improve overall grid performance.
The company added that, until there is a noticeable improvement in allocation, the limited power available is being carefully managed and fairly shared across feeders and service bands in order to promote equity and maintain operational efficiency.
While apologising to customers for the inconvenience caused, IBEDC appealed for patience and understanding, assuring consumers that it remains committed to transparency and will continue to provide timely updates as the situation develops.
