The Progressive Forum, Ibadan (TPFI), has expressed deep concern over the rising insecurity in Ibadanland and its environs, urging government agencies to take appropriate action.
In a press statement issued by TPFI, The Forum also highlighted the unaffordability of foodstuffs despite stable petroleum prices and transportation fares and called for the government’s intervention in reviewing soaring food prices.
At its 51st general meeting, held at Omo Aj’orosun Club House, Ibadan, on Friday, 16 January, 2026, with the theme “Why We Are Here”, TPFI reaffirmed its loyalty to the Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Senator Rashid Adewolu Ladoja, Arusa 1, felicitating him on his recent appointment as the Chairman of the newly constituted Oyo State Council of Obas, and expressed worries about land encroachment by Iwo people at Ogburo in the Lagelu Local Government Area, Ibadan, Oyo State, for illegal mining activities, in a release by the Forum’s Secretary, Prince Kola Amoo Adelakin.
The meeting, chaired by Tunji Oladejo, featured keynote speeches, discussions, and contributions from members.
The Forum’s Chairman highlighted concerns about several critical issues affecting Ibadanland, including significant challenges in primary education that impact learning quality, a lack of basic amenities such as water supply, major housing issues, a strained primary healthcare system with poor service delivery, growing safety concerns due to inadequate fire service infrastructure, and environmental neglect, particularly in solid waste management, which threatens public health and well-being.
The Forum plans to bring these issues to the Government’s attention, pushing for urgent reforms and improvements.
Members discussed issues like strategic repositioning, stakeholders’ collaboration and government engagement.
The Forum also announced plans to launch “Ibadan Progressive Voice”, an online newspaper aimed at promoting Ibadanland’s development and showcasing the achievements of its inspirational indigenes.
The Forum urged the Oyo State Government to strengthen its efforts in tackling insecurity, review soaring food prices and keep politics out of the Ibadan Circular Road project.
The meeting also called on the Government to address the concerns of project-affected victims to prevent further tension.
Additionally, the Forum demanded that newly built shops in Ibadanland’s main marketplaces be fairly distributed to Ibadan Indigenes.
TPFI plans to pay a courtesy visit to the Olubadan soon to discuss these issues and seek his support, underscoring its commitment to collaborative problem-solving efforts for Ibadanland’s challenges.
The meeting resolved to hold quarterly meetings, with the next meeting scheduled for April 2026.
The Forum’s commitment to revitalising Ibadanland was reiterated, with members urging all stakeholders to work together towards achieving this goal.
The event was attended by prominent Ibadan indigenes, where the Forum’s new Executive Council, led by Tunji Oladejo, was formally unveiled and presented.
The President-General of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), Barr. Chief Sulaiman Ajeniyi Ajewole, Aare Atunluse of Ibadanland, reaffirmed his support for TPFI through his representative, Elite Engr Remi Oluokun.
The meeting ended with a call for unity and collective action towards revitalising Ibadanland, promoting peace, progress and development.
