In a deeply symbolic ceremony steeped in age-old tradition, the Oluwo Afobaje of Labosinde on Friday, September 26, 2025, adorned Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja with sacred akoko leaves, formally confirming him as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.
The historic event took place at the Labosinde Compound in Oja’ba, Ibadan, marking a pivotal moment in the city’s centuries-old kingship institution.

The decoration with akoko, a revered emblem of legitimacy, authority, and continuity in Ibadan’s royal heritage, followed the ritual opening of the clash, an essential preliminary rite in the enthronement process.
After receiving the symbolic leaves, Oba Ladoja proceeded to the Osemeji shrine located directly opposite the Labosinde Compound, where additional traditional rites were performed to seal his ascension.
The newly crowned monarch’s arrival was a spectacle of royalty and culture.
