A 12-year-old female student of a private secondary school in the Challenge area of Ibadan, Oyo State, was today abducted by gunmen.
The incident occurred at about 7:20 a.m. on Thursday at a junction leading to the school premises shortly after the pupil alighted from a vehicle.
Confirming the development in a statement issued in Ibadan on Thursday, the spokesperson for the Oyo State Police Command, Ayanlade Olayinka, said detectives were immediately deployed to the scene following a distress report.
According to him, officers carried out a preliminary assessment and commenced fact-finding efforts upon arrival.
“Eyewitnesses at the scene were identified and questioned, and their accounts are providing valuable leads to assist ongoing investigations,” Olayinka stated.
He added that the parents of the victim had been contacted and were working closely with the police to facilitate the safe rescue of their daughter.
“The parents of the victim have been contacted and are in close contact with the police as efforts continue to ensure the safe rescue of the child,” he said.
The police assured residents that efforts were ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators and secure the release of the abducted student.
