In a bid to stimulate critical reflection on Nigeria’s foreign policy and the future of its public institutions, the Graduate Research Clinic (GRC) will on Monday, June 23, 2025, convene its 7th Roundtable in honour of renowned scholar and diplomat, Professor Kayode Soremekun.
Themed “The World is an Egg, Nigeria is a Spoon,” the roundtable will bring together a distinguished lineup of speakers from academia, diplomacy, and governance to discuss Nigeria’s place in an increasingly volatile global order. The event is scheduled to begin at 5:00pm WAT and is open to the public via registration at tinyurl.com/SoremekunRoundtable.
Hosted by Tobi Adewunmi, the roundtable seeks to interrogate the intersections of international relations, governance, and institutional development through the lens of Prof. Soremekun’s scholarship and public service.
Among the high-profile speakers are:
- Dr Kayode Fayemi, former Executive Governor of Ekiti State and Honourable Minister of Solid Minerals;
- Ambassador Joe Keshi, former Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs;
- Ambassador Aderemi Bolaji, Director of Economic Trade and Investment, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and former Nigerian Ambassador to Ukraine;
- Professor Jeremiah Shola Omotola, former Deputy Vice Chancellor and Professor of Comparative Psephology at the Federal University, Oye Ekiti;
- Professor Kayode Eesuola, Research Professor of African Studies, University of Lagos;
- Dr Tola Odubajo, Senior Lecturer in International Relations and Comparative Politics, University of Lagos.
The session will be co-hosted by Dr Tobi Oshodi, a Senior Lecturer in International Relations at Lagos State University.
A statement from the organisers described the event as a timely intervention: “As Nigeria seeks to recalibrate its development priorities and assert a more strategic global posture, this conversation invites scholars, policymakers, and citizens alike to reflect on how intellectual legacies like Prof. Soremekun’s can shape national transformation.”
Participants can expect a robust dialogue on governance, strategic policymaking, and the evolving role of higher education in addressing state fragility.
