The Nigerian gospel music community is in mourning following the death of Taiwo Adegbodu, one half of the popular Yoruba gospel duo, the Adegbodu Twins.
The tragic news emerged on Sunday after Taiwo’s twin brother and musical partner, Kehinde Adegbodu, announced his passing on social media. In an emotional post, Kehinde expressed deep sorrow over the loss of both his brother and longtime ministry partner.
“TAIWO, why will you leave me and your kids without notification? My heart is bleeding. Lord, how do you want me to cope without him? God why? This is too much for me to bear!!!” he wrote.
The death was also confirmed via the duo’s official Facebook page, managed by their team. In the statement, the family described his passing as sudden and deeply painful.
Fellow gospel artiste Esther Igbekele also paid tribute on her Instagram page, sharing a photograph of the late singer and offering condolences in Yoruba.
Taiwo performed alongside Kehinde Adegbodu for decades, with the pair rising to prominence in the Yoruba gospel music scene after the release of their debut album, Faratimi (Lean on Me), in 1999. Over the years, the twins became renowned for their spirited worship sessions, harmonious twin-stage performances, and culturally rooted, spiritually uplifting sound.
Their music resonated strongly with churches and Christian gatherings, particularly in Nigeria’s South-West region. Some of their popular songs include Shower Your Blessing, God Concert, Emi Mimo, Igbagbo Dun, Ma Beru, and Adura Mi Gba.
As of the time of filing this report, the cause of Taiwo Adegbodu’s death has not been disclosed, and details regarding funeral arrangements remain unknown.
His passing has sparked an outpouring of grief from fans, church leaders, and fellow gospel artistes across the country, many of whom have taken to social media to celebrate his life and ministry.
