Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, on Friday, September 19, 2025, made a triumphant return to Port Harcourt, stepping off the plane at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, just two days after President Bola Tinubu lifted the emergency rule imposed on the state and ordered his reinstatement.
The governor’s aircraft touched down at exactly 11:50 a.m., sparking jubilation among loyal supporters who had thronged the airport to welcome him back.
Among the prominent figures on ground were political heavyweights and close allies of the governor: former Commissioner for Information and Communications, Barr. Emma Okah; ex-Health Commissioner, Dr. Adaeze Oreh; former Nigerian Ambassador to the Netherlands, Oji Ngofa; ex-Environment Commissioner, Sydney Gbara; and former factional Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Victor Oko-Jumbo.
Others in the delegation included former Commissioner for Youths, Chisom Gbali; ex-Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Evans Bipi; former NUPENG President, Igwe Achese; ex-Education Commissioner, Dr. Tamunosisi Gogo-Jaja; as well as former council chairmen of Port Harcourt City, Ezebunwo Ichemati, and Obio/Akpor, among several others.
Fubara’s return marks a dramatic new chapter in Rivers State politics, signaling the end of months of uncertainty and tension that followed the federal government’s takeover.
