The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has expressed appreciation to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for its support in helping Nigeria meet its 2025 revenue target.
Chairman of FIRS, Zach Adedeji, conveyed this gratitude during a courtesy visit to the EFCC headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, where he led members of his management team to meet with the Commission’s Chairman, Ola Olukoyede.
Adedeji noted that while President Bola Ahmed Tinubu recently praised the Service for surpassing expectations in revenue collection, the achievement was made possible through collaboration with key agencies, such as the EFCC.
“If you listened to Mr. President last week, we were being praised to the high heavens for meeting our revenue target. But you know it is wrong to assume that we are the only ones doing the job. So, we take it upon ourselves to visit and convey Mr. President’s appreciation to our partners. I just came to commend the kind of relationship we have and how you really helped us in achieving our goal and by extension in sustaining the financial stability of Nigeria,” Adedeji said.
He further stressed the need for continued partnership in driving voluntary tax compliance and ensuring a transparent expenditure framework in the coming budget cycle.
In his response, EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, congratulated FIRS for achieving the feat, describing it as unprecedented in Nigeria’s history.
“I want to congratulate you on the no mean feat that you have achieved in this short period. I’m not sure there is a time in the history of Nigeria that we met our revenue target by August. Collaboration is key. When they see EFCC beside FIRS, that sends a signal to the entire public that it’s no longer going to be business as usual,” Olukoyede stated.
Olukoyede reaffirmed the EFCC’s commitment to supporting FIRS, particularly in combating tax fraud. He cited a recent Court of Appeal ruling affirming the Commission’s powers to investigate such cases as further validation of its role.
“We have been having a joint task force over the years. We work together and we’ll continue to do that,” he added.
