The Federal Ministry of Education has joined the global community in commemorating the 2025 International Day of the Girl Child, with a renewed pledge to advance girls’ rights and access to inclusive education across Nigeria.
The event, held under the global theme “The Girl I Am, The Change I Lead,” reaffirmed Nigeria’s dedication to empowering girls as future leaders and change agents in national development.
Speaking at the celebration, the Honourable Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Sai’d Ahmad, said investing in girls’ education is central to building a prosperous and equitable Nigeria.

“Investing in girls is investing in Nigeria’s future,” the Minister declared, reiterating the Federal Government’s determination to remove all barriers hindering girls’ education and participation in society.
Prof. Ahmad outlined several key government initiatives designed to promote gender equity in education, including the National Policy on Gender Education, the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE), as well as scholarship schemes, safe learning spaces, and school feeding programmes.
Representatives from UNICEF, civil society organisations, and youth advocacy groups who attended the event commended the Ministry’s leadership and reaffirmed their commitment to continued partnership in advancing girls’ empowerment.
They emphasised that supporting girls to realize their potential as leaders, innovators, and drivers of sustainable development remains essential to Nigeria’s long-term growth and stability.
