The Federal Ministry of Education has deepened its collaboration with the Government and private sector of Germany to advance Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and promote structured labour migration initiatives for Nigerian youths.
Minister of State for Education, Dr. Yusuf Tanko Sununu, represented by Dr. Alausa, revealed that the new TVET initiative offers six to twelve months of hands-on training for graduates and school leavers who lack employable skills.
He added that the programme has recorded a 400 percent increase in enrolment across Federal Technical Colleges, reflecting growing interest in practical skill acquisition.
In his remarks, Dr. Matthias Leder of AHK Nigeria reaffirmed Germany’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s skills development agenda and strengthening legal labour migration channels that align education with sustainable employment outcomes.
Meanwhile, the Ministry has also launched the upgraded Nigerian Research and Education Network (NgREN), integrated with the Tertiary Education, Research, Applications, and Services (TERAS) platform, to accelerate digital transformation in the nation’s tertiary education system.
The upgraded NgREN will connect universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education through a high-speed digital network that supports e-learning, cloud computing, and advanced research collaboration nationwide.
Backed by the World Bank through the SPESSE and ACE Impact projects, the initiative will provide cloud data centers, e-libraries, and campus-wide Wi-Fi facilities. The Ministry noted that the effort aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes a knowledge-driven and innovation-based economy.
