The Federal Government of Nigeria, in collaboration with the European Union (EU), has launched a €40 million Education and Youth Empowerment Initiative (IPINC) aimed at transforming education and improving opportunities for young people in Northwest Nigeria.
The programme, which was unveiled as part of activities marking the 2025 International Day of the Girl Child, focuses on foundational learning, teacher training, digital literacy, and inclusive education.
The €40 million fund will serve as seed capital to attract private sector investment under the EU Global Gateway Strategy.
Speaking at the launch, representatives from key education and development partners, including the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), UNESCO, UNICEF, Plan International, Save the Children, and the World Bank, reaffirmed their commitment to advancing safe learning environments and empowering youth across the country.
The Federal Ministry of Education noted that the initiative aligns with Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to strengthen human capital development and promote equal access to education, especially for girls.
In her remarks, the Minister of State for Education emphasized that empowering young people through quality education, mentorship, and equal opportunities remains central to Nigeria’s development agenda. She added that the collaboration with the EU represents a major step toward ensuring every Nigerian child—particularly girls, can learn, lead, and thrive in a safe and inclusive environment.
